IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CORONA/COVID-19

Your travel insurance policy from SIA will cover you against COVID-19 no matter where you are.

If you are in a situation where you cannot go back home because of the virus outbreak, and you already have a SIA travel insurance policy, you can contact your consultant or contact us to renew the policy and send it to you by email, otherwise you will not be covered for any other incident that occurs to you abroad, so it is very important to check the validity of your policy and act accordingly in a timely manner.

If you forgot to renew it before the expiry date, SIA will be able to issue a policy but there will be a waiting period of 72 hours before the policy comes in force.

SIA shall cover the medical hospitalization of the Insured in case of illness related to the COVID-19 for a maximum limit as set in the Schedule of Benefits.

Important: This coverage will be only granted, if PCR positive, 72 hours after the Insured arrival to his/her destination. It is to be noted that the hospitalization of the Insured will be limited to 10 days maximum which will be strictly due to medical complications related to COVID-19 and not to any preexisting known or unknown pathology.

Any test resulting in a negative diagnostic assessment will not be covered by this contract.

In the event of an hospitalization due to COVID-19, SIA shall take in charge, if necessary, the Evacuation and/or the Repatriation to the Country of Residence up to the amount shown in the Schedule of Benefits.

It is prudent for travelers who are sick to delay or avoid travel to affected areas, especiallyelderly travelers and people with chronic diseases or underlying health conditions.

General recommendations for personal hygiene, cough etiquette and keeping a distance of at least one meter from persons showing symptoms remain particularly important for all travelers. These include:

  • Perform hand hygiene frequently, particularly after contact with respiratory secretions. Hand hygiene includes either cleaning hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand rub. Alcohol-based hand rubs are preferred if hands are not visibly soiled; wash hands with soap and water when they are visibly soiled;
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a flexed elbow or paper tissue when coughing or sneezing and disposing immediately of the tissue and performing hand hygiene;
  • Refrain from touching mouth and nose;
  • A medical mask is not required if exhibiting no symptoms, as there is no evidence that wearing a mask – of any type – protects non-sick persons. However, in some cultures, masks may be commonly worn. If masks are to be worn, it is critical to follow best practices on how to wear, remove and dispose of them and on hand hygiene after removal

Travelers returning from affected areas should self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days and follow national protocols of receiving countries. Some countries may require returning travelers to enter quarantine. If symptoms occur, such as fever, or cough or difficulty breathing, travelers are advised to contact local health care providers, preferably by phone, and inform them of their symptoms and their travel history.

General

No one thinks twice before getting health or car insurance. Travel insurance is just as important since it gives you the peace of mind you need by covering your travel expenses in case your trip is cancelled, or cut short for a legitimate reason, all within the policy limits previously agreed upon.. With added benefits, your baggage can also be protected as well as medical and dental fees.

Everything has limits, and so does travel insurance. There are some costs that cannot be refunded even if the reasons of the flight cancellation are valid and acceptable according to your policy. For example, the payments for some cruises, tours and airline tickets cannot always be returned. Please check with your travel agent to see which payments are non-refundable in your chosen policy because cancellation policies are not all the same.

Travel insurance can cover your expenses due to medical and nonmedical emergencies before you travel or even during, such as:

  • Flight Cancellation
  • Trip Cancellation
  • Trip Interruption
  • Medical Emergency- Dental Coverage Lost/ Delayed Baggage Coverage & More.
Note: These coverages are not protected in every insurance plan so please refer back to the terms and conditions of your chosen policy.
